Mission
Protect, study, and interpret the geologic features of Spectral Valley National Park for education, research, and conservation.
What We Do
Conduct research, restore disturbed geologic sites, provide public education, and monitor mineral and fossil resources.
Headlines
Hornblende Gabbro
Coarse-grained intrusive rock near Sentinel Hill; local outcrops sometimes cause compass errors due to trace magnetite.
Quartz Veins
Quartz veins occur in fractured basalt and along streambeds; a few sites show faint UV luminescence from trace minerals.
Basalt Formations
Columnar Miocene basalts form natural chambers that sometimes produce harmonic tones in high winds.
Glacial Till & Sediment Layers
Pleistocene deposits across the valley preserve plant fossils and occasional vertebrate fragments.
Safety Notice
Collecting rocks is prohibited. Magnetic anomalies may affect electronics — use marked trails and paper maps.
